Billionaire Next Door Warren Buffet Interviewed CNBC
Warren Buffet is interviewed on CNBC. As you may already know at the time of this writing Warren is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. This interview and show is 1 hour long. On the show there is a lot of talk about the Berkshire Annual Meeting and how much time he spends meeting shareholders, fans and how he takes awhile to answer questions. Many consider Warren Buffet the best investor who has ever lived. It's well known he gives to charity including Bill Gates foundation and the amount he donated is is hard to even fathom. As you watch Warren Buffet you will be amazed how down to earth and humble he is. He has lived in the same average size house over 50 years in his town.
It seems this show is on CNBC quite often so please check your local cable TV guide under CNBC listings for available times. Becky Quick is the one who interviews Warren. Warren talks about his very humble beginnings with just family in the audience at once point to how he got to where he is today. They show us Charlie Monger, a good friend and partner who has known Warren for 50+ years. Charlie is from the same neighborhood and they both have a lot in common. The show will show you a lot of Warren's staff, managers, and who makes the behind the scenese stuff happen. In the show you will see Warren doing some very down to earth things, he seems like a very likeable guy. There is a lot more I could say about this 1 hour show, but you should see it for yourself. At this time it says Berkshire has 88 companies.

Joel Osteen Inspirational Books and Audio
Joel Osteen Inspiration
I just got done watching Joel Osteen who is a well known inspirational speaker and a well known published author of many books and audio. I have provided descriptions and pictures of some of his best selling books. I have got a chance to listen to some of his audio books and I often see him on tv like I did tonight. Joel is a very well prepared speaker with one of the largest church crowds around. Much of his teaches are based on inspiration, confidence builders and simply thinking positive much like the idea of law of attraction, somewhat similar to the DVD the secret. Much like a Tony Robbins , Joel is good to listen to often as he will allow you to become more positive over time and your personal development will improve as he conditions your mind for this. He is very big about others accomplishing their dreams, thinking big, and never giving up. His speeches are well prepared and it shows when he speaks. What I do like about him is that he is more well balanced and focuses on success and creating successful people through his speaking. Some of the popular titles we have added here are: become a better you, Your best life now, six steps to enjoying life, letting go of the past, living stress free, holding on to your joy, thinking the right thoughts, living like a champion. You should buy a series of Joel's books and become a better you and give back to others.

The Long Tail Book Review: Chris Anderson
The Long Tail Chris Anderson
The above picture is the revised updated edition that just came out for the Long Tail by Chris Anderson. I just got done reading the 2006 version of the book yesterday, and I really enjoyed it. I have been reading it off and on all month long. This book really highlights the world we live in today with technology, digital distribution, and the infinite choices we find ourselves with every day. I have been thinking this way for a very long time, and I was happy to see someone wrote a book about it. We are in a world with infinite possibilities, unlimited shelf space. Because we have infinite choices we have to be given ways to make choices, whether by price, size, popularity, reviews, we need the tools. The idea of the long tail is how we are becoming more and more of a niche society in our tastes, and it's not about the short head or the hit anymore. Hit meaning hit tv show, hit record, it's not about the masses anymore. In the future the hits won't be forced upon us, we will get to choose with unlimited shelf space, and we then will see what is most popular, or maybe everything will be somewhat popular. It's important to realize with popular sites like Ebay, Google, itunes, we are able to have so many possibilities to find exactly what we want, and the reason is with the internet it's becoming very economical to do so. We are finding that categores are being created, and micro niches are being made up every day. I would read this book and stay tuned to this concept for many years to come. It can either be a bad thing or a good thing depending on how you play it. I find it to be important as a consumer but also as a business owner that caters to consumers. This is best being seen with search engines, search queries, movies, DVD's, music, etc. It's the idea of Netflix vs. Blockbuster. The idea of Amazon vs. Borders books. Read the book to see how many more selections one has over the other, I think you may be surprised how great it is. In the future we will see new artists emerge through video, music and other mediums of marketing.

Time Strategies of Very Successful People
I am just finishing up listening to my cassette set of Time Strategies of Very Successful People by B. Eugene Griessman. This cassette series is a little dated, I would say personal computers were fairly new at the time, no smart phones, or ipods, etc. Regardless of the fact it's a little dated, I am still getting a lot of great ideas on time management, time savings, time investments, and how not to waste time. I cover a lot of these concepts at my blog on www.RonOrr.com. What I like about this tape set is that is gives you hundreds of ideas how to save a few minutes here and there and make the right decisions. It talks a lot about time wasting activities, and then how to save that time the next time you do that activity. I do also like how most concepts relate to the average person. I bought this tape set on ebay, but I would recommend you try ebay, or amazon to see if you can buy it. You don't want to just trade your hours for dollars, you want to make sure you are investing and leveraging your time correctly.
This is a 6 tape audio set, each side of each tape is about 40-45 minutes each. Alot of the concepts in this series are focused on a business life, a strong emphasis on that. It's important for us to all realize we have 86,400 seconds per day, 24 hours per day. The question comes up on how we use our time every day. Here are some bullet points on the inside cover. 4 great ways to avoid time-wasting activities... and people. Helpful techniques for planning ahead. How to balance work, family, and social life. The importance of making "appointments" with yourself.
A concept that this tape series isn't able to get into that much is how technology will really leverage and widen the gap of how some people will maximize their time over others. This tape set starts to get into this, but much of today's technology wasn't invented yet. There are still many people that don't use technology, so technology is one concept that help you get very far ahead of others. This tape set talks about making the most of down time. This tape set does talk about keeping your time focused on a well-balanced life. Another concept is prioritizing what it is you do, what's most important and why. This tape is about valuing your time. This author has another Time Tactics of Very Successful People Eugene Griessman on ebay.

Richard Flint Exiting the Rat Race
I am listening this CD for about the 4th time. I do like this guy's energy. He has been speaking for 25+ years I believe. To me he is like a Tony Robbins, he gives you energy and really makes you think. He is big on helping you make the most of your time and make the most of your life. He hates to see people be exhausted, he wants to see people succeed. He is big on being organized and not move so fast that nothing gets done. He doesn't like people racing through the day , day after day not doing the right things. The wrong behaviors create a rat race. I have seen him in person two times, it's well worth it. He wants you to be able to manager your pace, not get frustrated or overwhelmed. His audio is really good at making you think hard and shaking up the way you think about things, that's important. He has a lot of energy, the entire time he is talking. He is a good story teller, funny and he is very well traveled. He has another CD named Listening with your eyes wide open, I have heard that a few times, and will listen to it again next and may write about it later, so stay tuned. This CD is again upbeat and can help if that's what you are looking for. Richard Flint doesn't like excuses at all, which I agree with. He is a big believer about how you spend your time. His CD talks a lot about discipline, focus, and organization. He says "behavior defines us" He talks a lot about how people spend their entire life. He talks about the exit door and how to not be trapped and get to the other side. This was a great CD, I highly recommend it.

Psychology of Winning Denis Waitley
I just got done listening to this tape set. It was recorded quite a few years ago, but it's very great for a positive attitude. There are a lot of great ideas on positive things to think about and how to get negative thoughts out of your head. This tape set covers a lot of ideas, and this is a very experienced speaker. According the description:
In The Psychology of Winning, you'll learn how to:
- Make a habit of the Ten Steps to Winning taken by all Olympic champions, top sales stars, and top executives.
- Focus your dominant thoughts on leading you inevitably to victories in all your challenges.
- Create a new optimistic way of life.
- Understand and control the fundamental key to all human behavior.
- Boost your "winning average" with positive self-expectancy.
- Develop optimal self-esteem in your employees, your children, and yourself.
- Harmonize the Three Zones of Growth to keep yourself in the winner's circle.
This is another one of those programs that really works on your mindset, it makes you more focused on getting things done and knowing you can do it. I heard some great new ideas in this program.

Jim Rohn Designing Your Life Rather Than Making a Living
I have listened to the 1+ hour audio of Jim Rohn's Designing your life rather than making a living. It's about taking control of your life. He is said to be a great mentor of Tony Robbins, and has been around a very long time. He is a big believer of reading all the time. He is a big believer in writing down all of the good ideas you get and put them in a journal, don't count on your memory. He believes self-education makes you rich, but formal education just makes you a living. You can go to his website www.JimRohn.com. This guy has been doing this for over 40+ years and their is a lot to learn from him, especially about the pain pleasure principle and self-dicipline, I would highly recommend him.

Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
I just finished listening to the 3rd and final CD audio of Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, I like this audio because it teaches about self-dicipline, and the power of delayed gratification, which is a hard skill for many to learn. This guy is a Dr. and has been studying this for over 20 years, so a lot of it is about the brain and pretty tecnical, but he gives some great real life examples of kids, studies, people and relationships and how they can notice if they have emotional intelligence and character and how to control it. This is a great topic, a little bit technical, but there is a lot to learn.

Men of Honor DVD-Determination and Inspiration
This is a great inspirational movie, that will motivate you. It's about having the odds against you and never ever ever ever giving up. It may take years to get to where you want to get. It may take thousands of steps to where you need to get, but it's not always about the final destination, it's about the journey along the way and who life makes you during that journey. This movie teaches you to forget all of those that don't believe you can do it, and learn to believe in the one person that matters, yourself. You are constantly competing against yourself in life, and you can choose to go backwards or forwards, just just with every years, but every months, every week, every hour, every second and finally every choice you make. This movie teaches you that no matter how tough you have it, or how much you think the odds are against you, someone always has it tougher and much more difficult. This movie teaches you to have determination, laser focus, and to have a future goal of what you some day want to become. I've seen the movie a few times, and will continue to watch it.
This movie is about honor, respect, and never letting yourself or anyone else down. It's about giving it 110% and giving it all you have. No pain, no gain, it's about truly pushing yourself to the limit to succeed. Only you can determine what true success means to you. Some of your goals may take weeks, months or even years, but you will get rewarded with small accomplishments along the way. Due yourself a favor and watch the movie and tell other friends and families about this movie. I will post about future movies that are also inspirational like this movie.

Creating Your Future Dr. Dennis R. Deaton
I am finishing up listening to this 6 tape set. This tape set was recorded from a live seminar. It's copyrighted from 1996. The one teaching and speaking is Dr. Dennis R. Deaton. He is a big believer in concepts he trademarked and created, which are Visioneering, and Power Goaling which is like Mental Moving Making. He has some very inspirational stories on this tape set. Dennis is very well spoken and knows this niche well. The company he owns is TimeMax, Inc. and QUMA Learning, Inc. Some concepts you'll learn about in this tape set would be the substance of thought. Human behavior and personal mind management. Developing concentration ability. Implementing Literal Visualization. Employing Daily Reinforcement, also conscious and subconscious ideas. Sources of willpower and drive. There is a lot of talk about the subconscious mind and how it works.
This course comes with a very short manual/book 20 pages long. The website in the manual is quma.net, not sure if that website is still operational when you read this, at the time of this writing in January of 2009 it is. Dr. Dennis R. Deaton has some participation with those in the audience and uses a paper eisel and whiteboard to work with their ideas, and does some good question and answer sessions.
He has a session near the last 2 cassette tapes where he asks for participation, ideas and feedback from the audience, which makes it easier to relate to. He gives a lot of encouragement of others ideas that the provide throughout the seminar. He let's people come up with their mental movies. He wants you to imagine the destination, and the route to it will come from your subconscious.

Warren Buffet Way by Robert G. Hagstrom, Jr.
I am just finishing listening to The Warren Buffet Way done by Robert G. Hagstrom, Jr. and read by Ronald C. Fraizier. He really seems to know Warren Buffet's investment strategies, and beliefs very well. I find the subject matter a bit dry, and technical, and I believe most people will, but if you really like the stock market, and how to evaluate companies market value and what to pay for these companies and whether to buy their stock I would highly recommend this 2 tape set. The tape set talks a lot about Berkshire Hathaway and what companies are owned by Buffet and which ones are his favorites and why. How Buffet determines what companies are a good value and worth holding onto long term. This tape set has a copyright of 1995 on it. You have to have a lot of respect for Warren Buffet based on his networth and how successful he is year after year on picking the right investments. He said Warren Buffet started with only $100 one day in the past and built it to billions. He has often found himself only behind Bill Gates on the Forbes 100 Richest people in America.
I bought this audio set used at half price books, which I highly recommend as the price was $3.98 compared to the $18.00 it sold for brand new. This is a tape set you would have to listen to a few times to retain a lot of what is said. Convertible preferred stock seems to be a popular investment type. This tape set was done by Random House Audio Publishing, Inc. This tape set talks very positive about Coca-Cola and Gillete. Geico is also talked about positively. They talk a lot about return on investments, growth of stocks, equity value of stocks, and most of the tape talks about how to determine what is a good business and what it's worth paying for or holding onto.

Unlimited Power Anthony Robbins
I got done yesterday listening to the full 6 tape set of Anthony Robbins Unlimited Power. I really enjoyed it, I also have a 1 tape set I listened to the day before that. I have listened to a lot of Tony Robbins stuff before and notice he has a lot of overlap from one tape to another, but that's ok, he reinforces it in you. Tony is great at getting you to realize how to get yourself to do something, he really knows people, and how they think, they Psychology of people. Tony is very good at tonality and getting you to follow how he says things. One part that really got me interested this last time, even though I have listened to a lot of his stuff over and over is the anchor in which we remember things. We remember a feeling or something that happened when we hear a certain song, a noise, or something is said or even seeing a person or something. And that we can even create or uncreate these anchor points is amazing in itself. He spends a lot of time explaining the different personality types in many different categories.
You may also want to check out some of his other programs such as edge, and personal power 1 and 2. Tony Robbins is very dynamic compared to other speakers, and the time really flies when you listen to him. Tony is a very intelligent guy, as you'll understand from listening to his audio. I have seen Tony Robbins in person at the Chicago Learning Annex and it's very fun in person. You can see who else I have seen if you visit my library link at www.ronorr.com
I have another review coming up today or tomorrow on another big speaker and tape set on time management.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind T. Harv Eker 3-CD
I am listening to Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker for the 2nd or 3rd time. This is another great 3-CD set for anyone that wants to focus on a stronger business mindset as well as a financial future. What he does a great job at is explaining to you very bluntly how rich people and poor people think very differently about many things in life. The differences may have to do with how they treat their time or money. Their views on life are quite different. His style with how he explains it, he is very fast at talking and very blunt about how he explains it. He is going to tell you very clearly you, and only you have to make it happen, you can't wait for it to happen. He has become a multi-millionaire, so he has a lot to teach about his own journey.
He learned his way to success, and believes anyone else can. He believes you should be come an expert at your field or niche. This is a 3 CD set. The subtitle is Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth, and it is written and read by T. Harv Eker. The description on the casing said he went from zero to $1 million is 2 1/2 years. He is president of Peak Potentials Training. He has taught over 1/4 million people. This 3-CD set is over 3 1/2 hours. He talks a lot about money and success blueprint, he believes he can predict your future with 5 minutes spent with you. He believes a lot in what you learned as a child about your beliefs about money determine and shape how you see money today. He wants you to believe that you have a millionaire mind, he will have you repeat it many times throughout the recording.

Living the 7 Habits Stephen R. Covey
I am listening to "Living the 7 Habits" by Stephen R. Covey for the 2nd time this year. Stephen Covey has a very large vocabulary and is very intelligent. He speaks on this CD, but also provides many stories to illustrate his habits. It's called stories of courage and inspiration, based on real-life experiences. This is a 72 minute CD for running time. They talk about business and mission statement. A couple of other things by Stephen R. Covey are Reflections for Highly Effective People, and also Principle-Centered Leadership, First Things First(Which I am in the middle of right now, you'll see a posting soon).
He believes imagination is better than memory. Memory is finite. Imagination sees into the future it's unlimited, the subconscious mind does this. One story discusses alternatives and synergy, how family is more important than work, in some cases it's a higher priority. Synergy is the reward for seeking to understand how to make a win-win situation. This is a Simon & Schuster audio compact disc. The copyright on this CD is 1999.
One quote on the back of the CD is:
"To live with change, to optimisze change, you need principles that don't change. I cannot fully describe the respect and reverence I have for every person who has contributed a story, for their willingness to share their inward struggles to live by universal and self-evident principles." -Stephen R. Covey

First Things First by Stephen R. Covey
This is a 4 tape set that I am listening to called First Things First by Stephen R. Covey, it's about Time Management. The co narrators are A. Roger Merrill and Rebecca R. Merrill. This tape set talks about creating priorities, and deciding what's most important and not just urgent. The tape set talks a lot about goals, and vision. You can buy the audio of this for about $10 or less used these days. Most likely you are going to buy a CD set. They have a list of 4 quadrants that they go by. Quadrant 2 is the area where activities are important, but not urgent. Stephen Covey is big on choices, decisions that you make to a well balanced lifestyle. He is in to continually doing the right habits. This is a New York Times best seller. They talk a lot about the different quadrants, and priorities to you.
There is a lot of talk about meetings, agenda's, discipline and being productive. This may be a tape set you want to listen to over and over to pick up new ideas each time, it's a lot to retain. There is a lot of talk about being a leader, and also about creating mission statements. About having a purpose in life and helping the world. He thinks we need to organize more, spend more time working on ourselves, and work on personal development. He talks about building relationships and enriching them, and strengthening. He is talking about giving service to others, to make a more significant life. This is a great tape set, and I recommend going to buy it.

The Millionaire Next Door Thomas Stanley and William Danko
I am listening to the 2 tape set The Millionaire Next Door read by Cotter Smith with the authors of Thomas J. Stanley, Ph. D. and William D. Danko, Ph. D. What's interesting from their many years of research is they found that most millionaires and decamillionares live very frugally. They are frugal about most things in life. They find that those that spend a lot of money to try to look wealthy, often are not, they think the media skews this wrong. What you here in this tape set may surprise you. You may not realize that such wealthy people live so far below their means. I believe the message they are trying to get out, is they are wealthy because they are frugal, not that they are wealthy then decide to be frugal. These are based on mostly first generation wealth. They say the spouse is even more frugal in most cases.
They have a good example that they give on Dr. North and Dr. South comparing both doctors that make a lot of money, and how one spends a lot of money and how is very frugal, and how they end up in different spots in life. It talks about the different habits each has in each of their lives. They refer to tracking spending, and what you spent on each type of expenditure, or to get an accountant to do this. They compare PAW vs. UAW to fully understand what it stands for and to compare the difference, please buy this book or audio set on ebay or amazon.com.
They talk about the lifestyle and how it even will affect the children when they grow up. They do point out how the real wealthy focus on money management, goals and money activities often, while the others just appear to be wealthy and are hyper consumers. Financial Independence over Social Status. The wealthy own companies and live in average neighborhoods, and drive normal cars. Much of the money is reinvested into their companies. They have formulas that they think you should be worth based on annual salary and age. The tape set talks a lot about those who you think appear rich (big hat no cattle) but they are in reality just ultra consumers, make money to spend money. This is a good tape set, and I would recommend the book and audio cassette.

The Motley Fool You Have More Than You Think
I am listening to the two tape set by David and Tom Gardner (Creators of The Motley Fool, Fool.com). This book talks to everyday Americans about saving money, investing, rates of return, and financial independence. This audio does speak to everyday people, so it's easier to understand for the average person and their budget. They talk about losing money in gambling, and details how the statistics are against you, this tape is a little dated, but talks about $100 billion annually in the gambling industry. It talks about state lottery's, $30 billion industry. There is talk about consumer debt, and credit cards, and how much Americans owe in total debt.
They have another section on the 2nd tape, telling you how to determine which companies to invest in, in the stock market. They have 6 criteria's, some of which include knowing they will be making a profit in the beginning, can be understood, and are investing money in themselves. They mention to go to their website to get more info. They have a great section talking about the stock market and the components that are fundamental in deciding how much and who to invest in. They don't want you to spend too much on research from my understanding. They give the same advice I have heard others say about investing in companies that sell products you like and use. A lot of this tapes teaches you how to measure the value of money how to save it, and not waste it, how it's opportunity. Long term investing, saving into the stock market, is the main focus of this tape. They want you to give back after all of your years of success to provide opportunity for others.

Selling You Napolean Hill and Joe Slattery
I am listening to a 2 cassette tape 4 side set named Selling You by Napolean Hill and Joe Slattery as the narrator/readers. I've enjoyed listening to this short tape set. It teaches you a lot about believing in yourself and what you are selling. It's about selling yourself and having a definitive purpose. There are many excerpts from Napolean Hill in this recording. It looks like you can buy the book and audio on amazon.com. What your mind can conceive it can achieve. It talks about the situation when Napolean was offered the opportunity of 20 years of learning from Andrew Carnegie during their 3 day meeting. Anything by Napolean Hill is well worth listening to, he works on your mind and sales ideas. That 20 years of research went into creating the Think and Grow Rich classic that you hear about today. The quote from wikipedia is "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
The research was to interview over 500 people, most being milionaires. Here is how it's explained from Wikipedia.
"As part of his research, Hill interviewed many of the most famous people of the time, including Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, George Eastman, Henry Ford, Elmer Gates, John D. Rockefeller, Sr., Charles M. Schwab, F.W. Woolworth, William Wrigley Jr., John Wanamaker, William Jennings Bryan, Joseph Stalin, Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Charles Allen Ward and Jennings Randolph. The project lasted over twenty years, during which Hill became an advisor to Carnegie."

How to Find the Work You Love Laurence G. Boldt
I have just listened to this 1 tape set about finding your passion for your career or work you love. According to the author, it's a matter of trusting yourself, paying attention to the people and events in the outside world. It's about finding your talents and find what you enjoy doing, and listen to your own heart. This tape set is read by the author. This author Laurence also did Zen and the Art of Making a Living. The publisher is Penguin Audiobooks, and the copyright is from 1996. He feels that those that do a career they love will also likely make more money.
What I get out of it is I think he thinks we should find our own unique abilities and how we can help the world and have our talents be meaningful, and joyful. What am I here to do on this earth? What moves us all? Here is a link to buy the book on Amazon, I haven't read the book, only listened to the abridged audio tape version.
http://ping.fm/vFqOf
This is probably the most calming speaker I have ever listened to, he remains calm throughout the entire audio. He uses the word commitment a lot. He talks about shaping your life towards what you really want to do. You find the work you love based on looking for what it is you want to do, not what you don't want to do, positive values and affirmation. The steps along the way may not be clear. Integrity, service, enjoyment and excellence,(ISEE) are principles he believes in. He brings up the idea of staying away from doubt. He feels the ISEE formula will guide you towards your goal in a proactive way.

The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
I just listened to the audio book the Tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell. I found it an interesting topic and he gave many great examples from fashions that go in out of style to New York Crime. Other examples that were interesting were about Paul Revere, and sesame street. The idea is that something small happens that creates a trend or how people act, or think and many other followers do the same, and eventually it spreads quickly. One example of this may be a yawn, how just 1 simple statement can make it spread. This audio book is read by the author. I believe this author has many other popular books also out at this time. It makes you realize that you sometimes have to stick with a concept and follow it through, or that you really have to study why something works, what influences people to think or act in the way they do.
He talks about different personality types, and often how other humans help spread ideas, and concepts almost like a virus, also known as social epidemics. He is saying when it takes off, it's hit it's tipping point. The idea on the front cover is how little things can make a big difference. I have not read the book, but you can buy it on amazon. This author wrote Blink, which I am in the middle of, and also Outliers which is a newer book at this time. The part about the audio tape I found most interesting is the research that goes into how people think and act and do what they do.
